Root Canal Therapy
In the last several years, innovative advancements in technology used for root canal therapy have helped improve the treatment’s reputation. However, not everyone understands that the discomfort associated with root canals is from the infected tooth, and not because of the process.
At Madison Center for Dentistry, Dr. Zac Gilbertson is inspired by positive patient interaction, which is why he perfected a pain-free technique for administering shots and conducting procedures over his 13 years practicing dentistry. This proves a valuable service when providing root canal therapy in Madison, as many of his patients appreciate his commitment to ensuring comfortable, quality care.

Developing A Precise Plan
When tooth pain lands you in our dental office, we first conduct a thorough evaluation to accurately determine the problem. If the infection is still present, completing a course of antibiotics to clear the infection is necessary before we perform the procedure. Our office is equipped with a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) machine to generate high-quality three-dimensional images, which helps us create a precise treatment plan.
Because Dr. Gilbertson values educating his patients, he fully explains the process, answering your questions along the way. For those experiencing anxiety about any part of the procedure, we offer oral sedation or nitrous oxide to help you remain at ease throughout.
Conducting the Procedure
Once you are ready to undergo treatment, we apply anesthesia to thoroughly numb the area and utilize our electronic apex locator to target the exact location of the infection. Next, our dentist creates a small opening in the top of the tooth to remove the diseased pulp, fills the canal, then applies a temporary filling or crown to protect the area until your permanent restoration is ready. Dr. Gilbertson uses rotary instruments to perform root canal therapy efficiently and with the utmost concern for your comfort.
After the procedure is complete, our Madison dentist provides you with comprehensive post-procedure instructions and follows up with x-rays every six months to verify the treatment has gone as planned.
We also perform pulpotomies for children experiencing tooth pain to remove infected tissue from baby teeth. When retreatment is indicated due to complications from a previous procedure, our CBCT machine makes addressing these concerns as straightforward and effective as possible.
